I’m delighted to be trying out the STRETCH+ PLUS from the new HoMedics Zen range. If you’re wondering what this is, it’s a back stretching mat inspired by yoga.

You may remember I reviewed the STRETCH back in 2017 so I was really interested to see what new features were brought to the table. The STRETCH+ PLUS is an effortless way to experience the benefits of yoga from the comfort of your own home.

I reached out to a friend who teaches yoga. She said “Incorporating yoga into your routine can help enhance your health, increase strength, flexibility and reduce symptoms of stress, depression and anxiety.” I’ve used yoga in my own routine for a couple of years now. When you get to a certain age, being able to stretch and unwind is a must! My training these days is very different to my training from say three or four years ago.

As you can see in the video above, the HoMedics STRETCH+ PLUS was really easy to set up. Simply pull it out of the box, plug it in and turn it on! Make sure you read all the info provided, I have a habit of skipping this sometimes.

One thing I can remember from the original STRETCH mat was that it was little noisy. I’m delighted to say that the noise is definitely not as noticeable on the STRETCH+ PLUS. This could be down to the design or the additional removable mat. This is great because you can easily remove the cover of the STRETCH mat and wipe it clean with a damp cloth or wash it by hand to keep it clean and fresh.

The HoMedics STRETCH+ PLUS mat uses seven precision controlled air chambers. These inflate and deflate depending on the sequence and it really is mind blowing to wonder how this mat was designed.

Stretch

As we age, our muscles get shorter and less elastic. This is why stretching as we get older is so important. Stretching deliberately lengthens our muscles in order to increase muscle flexibility and joint range of motion. Stretching activities are an important part of any rehabilitation or exercise program. They help warm the body up prior to activity, this decreases muscle soreness as well as risk of injury.

Unwind

I think it’s fair to say, I’ve had a lot on my plate lately. Both on my physical plate and on my mind, haha! I definitely feel like I’m back on track though and I’ve enjoyed using the HoMedics STRETCH+ PLUS over the past few days and it has definitely helped me to unwind. Working for myself and being a father of two (not to mention the Mrs and the dog), does have stressful situations. So it’s really important to make sure you wind down and relax at the end of the day.

1. Twist – A dynamic program incorporating twists to decrease tension in the shoulders and hips. Also great for releasing tension in the lower back. I love this program!

3. Energise – An uplifting program to help boost energy. This is another favourite of mine. I love the head twist section.
4. Stretch – An ‘all-round’ treatment providing a great antidote after long periods of sitting.
5. Unwind – A combination of twists and stretches to help you distress and release tension.
6. Recover – A varied tempo program focused on replenishing energy.

I really love the HoMedics STRETCH+ PLUS. It’s designed by yoga experts so you really feel in safe hands. With all the treatments above, there are three intensity levels to choose from. I left it on the middle setting and found this was a good choice for me. There are a series of guided meditations available by scanning the QR code found on the box.
