I Could Live on These

Post Type

I discovered I had a cow’s milk allergy a couple of years ago so I’ve been dairy-free ever since. At first, it was difficult. You wouldn’t believe the amount of things I was eating that had milk in it. I didn’t think I could do it until I discover the freefrom aisle in my local supermarket.

I have a real sweet tooth, who doesn’t! It’s difficult training for an event knowing that a moment on the lips is a lifetime on the hips. I love these little caramel chocolates that are dairy-free and the caramel shortbread. My favourite dairy-free items though are the Alpro chocolate desserts. I could live on these! Some dairy-free items I have you can tell they’re dairy-free but these taste like real chocolate. They do a dark and normal chocolate flavour and also vanilla and caramel too. Alpro also have ranges of dairy-free milk, cream, shakes and yogurt.

While we’re on the subject of food items, I used a great little shopping website the other night called MySupermarket. It was great, they basically scanned numerous supermarkets and found the cheapest prices for me. It automatically told me that my Alpro chocolate desserts were cheaper in one of the supermarkets.

My local supermarket is Sainsbury’s and I spotted that they are currently offering two dessert packs for £2.50. As you can see in the picture, it doesn’t workout cheaper after all as the desserts are only a £1 in the other stores! I think the next time I’m online I’ll stock up on these desserts and save myself some money.

Another tip is to look out for a green thumb on products. This means it’s a ‘savvy buy and you can save up to 30% on the average regular price. Each product also has a pricing graph so you can see how the price of the item has changed over the past year.

This post has reminded me that I should really do one soon about the benefits of having soya in your diet. I’ll leave that for another time though and I’ll maybe share some more of my favourite dairy-free items.

Thanks again for reading,

Paul

  1. Becoming dairy-free at 30 must have been tough. At least you now know what the problem was though. All the best, great post.

  2. Another great post. I’ll definitely be checking out mySupermarket, sounds like a great idea! Thanks for sharing :)
