Music and Exercise

Post Type

Some people exercise to music, some don’t. For me, it depends. If I’m running in a team event like Total Warrior or the Newcastle Stampede then I definitely wouldn’t. If I’m running my local 5k and the Pier the Pier, I definitely will. This is mainly due to the fact that at some spells I’ll be running alone and if you don’t need to follow instructions, I’ll listen to music. In the gym, I always listen to music. I couldn’t imagine not.

The main reason for me listening to music is motivation and that depends on the typ of music. I tweeted the other night asking my followers what type of music they listened to when they train. One girl said Maximo Park, my friend Stephen said anything Techno! I was surprised at that as I didn’t think it was his thing but that’s the point in this post. Anything that has a good beat and is a little bit rhythmic will get you moving.

Music that’s currently on my running playlist is surprisingly slow. Slow as in hardly any beats. I love the ‘Vide Cor Meum’ by Hans Zimmer. The song is featured on the Hannibal Soundtrack and is quite a powerful piece of music. Another Hans Zimmer song called ‘The Contender’ is on there too. The same piece of music was used on my training montage I made when preparing for Total Warrior. Some more upbeat music later on in my playlist includes Pink’s ‘Please Don’t Leave Me’ and ’Give In To Me’ by Michael Jackson. I also have some dance tunes after those from the likes of Ian Van Dahl and Sash. I know, I know, my taste in music is really varied but as I mention above, it’s what ever floats your boat.

That’s it for today, short and sweet. If you exercise with music, try without. If you don’t exercise with music, try popping over to iTunes now and download some motivational tracks.

Stay inspired,

Paul
