Stand Like A Soldier

Children generally start their life with very good posture but over the years it can decrease. This is mainly due to bad habits and it can leave your child more vulnerable to back pain later in life. Here are some free tips!

  • Try to encourage your child to ‘stand like a soldier’ (or a ballerina). Get them to tuck their tummy in, put their soldiers back and lift up their heads
  • Sturdy rucksacks can be safer than fashion bags. Make sure they’re packed and worn correctly. Heavy objects should be packed first and it should be carried using both shoulder straps. Use a waist strap too if it has one
  • Classroom furniture sometimes isn’t ideal as they’re a one size fits all. You can improve your child’s posture by pulling the chair closer to the table, allowing them to sit back. Try to avoid hunching and sitting for long periods of time in the classroom

Following the birth of his son in 2009, Paul was unfit and sluggish. Since then he's been training using a range of exercise techniques and gained some valuable information over the years. Events he has completed to date are Total Warrior, Pier To Pier, Bamburgh 10k, Hamsterley 10k, Blaydon Races, Newcastle Stampede and over 50 parkruns. In 2012 he created his own challenge called the '12 Days of Christmas.' He raised over £1000 for Percy Hedley by running 60 miles to celebrate their 60 years.
